FEEDING & COMMUNICATION

Make feeding instructions easier to follow

Clear labels and a shared routine reduce uncertainty at handover time.

When more than one person provides care, feeding instructions need to be easy to locate and understand. Record the existing feed, the instructions provided by the owner or appropriate professional, and any agreed storage or handling notes.

Label supplies clearly and agree how carers will record completed tasks or report a shortage. Include access to drinking water in the daily care conversation, taking account of the species and existing professional advice.

Do not improvise changes to diet, supplements or medication from a general article. Individual requirements vary. Ask an appropriate professional about any proposed change and keep the written instructions up to date.
